“Revel”

i know what secrets lie in your quiet eyes
and wait for spring to come
i know that lull of peace, the lure of lies
that make you watch the sun
rise beyond your understanding
past your futile grasp of words
the image flashes by unseen
the warning sleeps and goes unheard
just like a fire in the night,
the shadows dance upon your door
and when you rise to meet the call
they’ll leave you wondering what you’re for
cities rise, and powers fall
history runs its looping track
and when it reaches the beginning-
you just might find what you once lacked

This has to be one of my favorites from you, Dustin. The second verse expounds on something I’ve studied for some time. People seem to have some sort of reverance for ignorance. They don’t think they have to worry about what they don’t know. As if, perhaps, it won’t “hurt” them.
We know the truth, though. We know that what you don’t know CAN hurt you. The third verse seems to show a sliver of hope for the target audience for this piece, yet explains that it may well be hopeless for them after all.
The last verse shows that understanding by learning – or more specifically the wisdom obtained through fiery babtisms – is what they should be seeking and is THE only hope.
Outstanding.
